Swimming Course Information
Sign up
You can sign up for swimming courses at our customer service or online by clicking the”Reservations” link. All swimming courses need to be paid upfront and the enrollment is binding.
We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the course requirements and prices before signing up. A child’s swimming skill level, rather than his/her age, determines which course to sign up for. If your child’s swimming skills do not meet the course requirements, the instructor has the right to place your child to a more appropriate class. In case you are uncertain of your child’s swimming skills, please contact Inari Ennevaara, who is in charge of the swimming courses.
Online sign up: If you are signing up your child/children for swimming lessons, to ensure the reservation you will need to add their information into your account when registering.
Terms for Cancelling a Reservation and Absences
If you need to cancel your reservation for a swimming course, you need to do it 3 weeks prior to the start date. You will need a doctor’s note to get a refund, if you cancel your reservation any later than this. Contact: Inari Ennevaara uimakoulut@urheiluhallit.fi or 040 777 2953
NOTE! Please do not participate a swimming lesson/course if you are sick, suffer from an infectious rash or have any other health complications that might have a negative effect on or contracted by other swimmers. You will need a doctor’s note to get reimbursement from absences.
Swimming School Policy
- Please arrive on time.
- Sing in at our customer service every time you arrive. This way you won’t need to pay an entrance fee. Your swimming instructor will meet you at the pool or in case of children’s swimming courses, the instructor will chaperone the children before and after the lesson, including in the bathing area.
- A parent is required to pay an entrance fee if s/he decides to go swimming while their child is attending a swimming lesson.
- Bring proper swim attire with you, such as a bathing suit or swim drunks, as well as, a towel, a seat cover and cleansing products.
- When you use the sauna, leave your swim wear in the locker by the bathing area.
- Go to the bathroom before swimming and bathing. If you need to use the bathroom during a swimming lesson, please inform your instructor before you exit the pool.
- No running in the bathing or swimming pool area. The floors are slippery!
- We recommend that you use a swim cap and swim goggles (exception. water jumpers).
- You are not allowed to bring sweets or gum to the swimming pool area.
The Swimming Instructor
- Your swimming instructor will meet you at the swimming pool and is responsible for you for the duration of the lesson (exception. preschoolers, instructions below).
- Always follow the directions given to you by your instructor and wait for the beginning of your lesson before addressing him/her, in the event that a previous lesson is still in session.
After Finishing a Swimming Course
You will receive a diploma and an evaluation of your swimming skills on the last swimming lesson of the course. Your instructor will also recommend a follow-up course suitable for your skill level. If you cannot attend the last session of the course, you can pick up your diploma and possible merit patches from our customer service. We will store your diploma for two months.
Special Policies
Family swimming courses
- The price includes swimming for 1 child and 1 adult.
- Only 1 child and 1 adult can be in the pool simultaneously (including the 1st lesson).
Preschoolers
(Elementary and Intermediate Swimming Courses and Club)
- Sign in at our customer service stand and continue on to the locker room, where you can leave your belongings. Your instructor will meet you at the locker room entrance door 5 minutes before the lesson begins. If you are tardy, the instructor will not wait for you. Therefore, make sure you come to the lesson on time. When you sign up for a course, remember to ask whether your instructor is a man or a woman. Our personnel will inform you, if a lesson will have a substitute instructor.
- Your swimming instructor will chaperone you also in the bathing area before and after the lesson and then bring you back to the locker room entrance door, where you met before the lesson. This procedure is the same every time, if we do not inform you otherwise. Children who want to continue swimming after the lesson need a guardian with them.
- NOTE! In Vuosaari, the children will change and bathe in the private saunas. Parents need to chaperone their children in the bathing area, while the swimming instructor collects them from the poolside locker room entrance before the lesson and drops them off to the same place when the lesson is over.
Water Jump Courses
(Elementary and Intermediate Courses and Clubs)
- Do not come to the meeting place earlier than 10 minutes before the lesson starts.
- The participants will meet at the long bench next to the large pool; sit down and wait for the instructor (if needed a parent can accompany you to this meeting spot).
- Put on proper swim wear and you can also wear a t-shirt and shorts. Since there is a 15 minute warm up before the lesson, do not shower before you come to the pool area.
- The lesson will end at the same place it started, after which you are free to continue to the locker rooms unsupervised.
Swimming Courses for Adults
- The participants will meet at the reserved section of the pool. Our aquatic personnel will give directions if needed.
