WATERBUGS

Waterbugs is swimming instruction for 5–6-year-old kindergarten children. The Waterbugs campaign started already in 1999, and today dozens of daycare centers around the Helsinki Metropolitan Area are involved. Swimming lessons organised through daycare centers have received positive feedback from both children and their parents.

WATERBUGS SWIMMING SCHOOL

The swimming school includes eight lessons (30 min) and there is instruction once a week.

Children must be accompanied by two adults who are members of the daycare centre staff. The daycare centre staff assists the children in changing clothes, washing themselves and, if necessary, assists them at the pool during teaching.

The swimming school fee is 49 € / child (8–10 children in a group), which the daycare centre pays to the swimming hall’s customer service during the first lesson. Alternatively, we can send an invoice to either the daycare centre or the parents’ association.

Welcome to learn!

The goal of the Waterbugs Swimming School is to get used to the water, the ability to stay afloat and the basics of swimming skills, which give the child the basic readiness to learn to swim.

Swimming instruction proceeds according to elementary swimming instruction:

  • getting used to water
  • dive
  • skidf
  • floating
  • kicks
  • beginner skills of the dog paddle and backstroke technique

In a swimming school, learning to swim takes place playfully and thus gives the child inspiring swimming experiences.

The maximum size of a teaching group can be 10 children and the smallest 8 children (5–6 years old). In the event of illness, a child cannot be replaced by another child, as teaching takes place according to a strict curriculum. Absences are also not refunded from the swimming school fee.
